During our September membership drive, Slow Food North Louisiana will host an heirloom beans & greens supper to highlight the importance of biodiversity and educate our community on the work of our North Louisiana chapter.
In 2022, Slow Food USA celebrated heirloom beans and in 2023 they are featuring heirloom greens. These are foods that are southern staples so we felt a local celebration of them both was in order!
We are proud to feature the foods of 6 local chefs who will be preparing our meal:
Chef Hardette Harris, Us Up North
Chef Libby Smith, LA Plant Food
Chef Joslin Pickens, Vegans on the Run
Chef Gabriel Balderas, El Cabo Verde and Zuzul Coastal Cuisine
Kanya Michelle, Shreveport Biscuit Company
Chef Chris Hayes, The Smoking Oyster
We are also excited to partner with Milam Street Kitchen Incubator and Community Kitchen (MS KICK), a program of Southern University at Shreveport, as our event venue. Our other event partner is Shreveport Green, who is growing heirloom greens for the event in their hydroponic grow house.
